Junior Chess Championship!

Saturday - Sunday, June 14-15 (or Sunday, June 15), 2008

     5-Rounds, Swiss-System chess tournament, open to all players born after 6/1/88, 90 minutes per player (Game/90), in the beautifully renovated, well-lighted 3rd floor Conference Center, New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Avenue at 34th Street (across from Penn Station, near 33rd Street PATH trains), New York City: 212-971-0101.

     All players must be current members of the U.S. Chess Federation (non-USCF members join when registering for the tournament, by adding the membership dues to the entry fee).  The USCF Official June 2008 Rating List will be used for this tournament. 

     Three separate sections.

      1). Open Section, open to all.

 PRIZES     

 1st - $400, 2nd - $200, 3rd - $120,

Top scorer, rated Under 1800: $100.

     2). Under 1600 Section, open to players rated Under 1600, or unrated players.

 PRIZES     

 1st - $300, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $110,

($100 prize limit to Unrated Players) 

 Top scorer, rated Under 1400: $100,

     2). Under 1200 Section,   open to players rated Under 1200, or unrated players.

 PRIZES     

 1st - $300, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $110,

($50 prize limit to Unrated Players) 

  Special Plaques also awarded to the top two Under 1200 players in each grade: K-4!

    $2,250 total prize fund is proportioned on 150 total paid entries, except A MINIMUM OF HALE EACH PRIZE IS GUARANTEED!

     Trophies will also be awarded to the top 5 finishers in each section!

     Free entry to all Chess Center of New York tournaments (except quads) thru 9/1/08 to the top 3 finishers in each section-- an incredible value worth hundreds of dollars!!

Two different playing options.

     1). 2-Day Schedule, on-site registration ends 9:30 am Sat.

Game times:   Sat 10 am, 1:30 pm & 4:30 pm; Sun 1:30 pm  & 4:30 pm.

    2.) 1-Day Schedule, on-site registration ends 8:30 am Sun.

Game times:  Sun 9 am, 10:30 am, 12 pm, 1:30 pm & 4:30 pm (rounds 1-3 of the 1-Day Schedule only are Game/30); both schedules merge together for Round 4 at 1:30 pm Sunday and compete for the same prizes.

      Limit of two half-point byes (must commit before Round 2). Re-entry: $30.

     Mail entry fee: 2-Day Schedule $58 per player, 1-Day Schedule $57 per player, if postmarked by 6/6/08.

      ENTRY FEE IS $20 LESS TO PLAYERS WHO ENTER BOTH the 1-Day Schedule of the Greater New York Junior Championship on Sunday, June 15th AND the New Yorker June Game/50 Open, Saturday June 14th at 11 am, with $2,200 GUARANTEED PRIZES in 2 sections, 1. Open Section and 2. Under 1800 Section!

      Entry fee refunded, less $10 service charge, to players who notify us that they will withdraw from tournament at least 30 minutes before round. N0 REFUNDS IF LESS THAN 30 MINUTES BEFORE GAME TIME. NO REFUNDS TO PLAYERS WHO LOSE BY FORFEIT (no-shows)!   USCF MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE FORWARDED TO THE USCF--  MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE!

    To withdraw after June 13, call the New Yorker Hotel, beginning late Friday afternoon, at 212-971-0101 (ask for "Chess Tournament"), or 845-569-9969, and BE SURE TO SPEAK TO THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR-- DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH THE OPERATOR, because these are often not delivered in time to prevent your losing by forfeit!
